The present invention relates to a method for determining the total starch content in sago logs. Accordingly, the method includes: a) identifying independent variables; b) conducting linear regression analysis; characterized in that the linear regression analysis is conducted by using the independent variables to establish a correlation with the total starch content; wherein said independent variables include: i) log weight, ii) log density, iii) log volume, iv) log floating surface, v) total water displaced, vi) log diameter, vii) log circumference, and viii) log radius; the method further includes obtaining a regression model and determining an R-squared (R2 ) value for a significant correlation between log weight and total starch content; thereby estimating the total starch content in sago logs based on log weight using the said regression model is obtained.
